Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has become a well-established treatment in sports injury: using an athlete’s own blood to reduce inflammation and accelerate healing. Those same principles can be applied to skin and hair, where the regenerative properties can improve skin quality and promote thicker healthier hair growth.

Also known as the Vampire Facial, PRP can be combined with Morpheus8 or as a stand-alone treatment to target a particular concern such as the under-eye area. This is the perfect treatment if you prefer the idea of harnessing your own natural growth factors to rejuvenate skin.

FAQs

  • Platelet-rich plasma consists of the liquid portion of whole blood, and platelets. These particular blood cells are best known for their clotting abilities, but also contain growth factors which can trigger cell reproduction and tissue regeneration.

  • A sample of blood is taken (usually from your arm) and spun down in a centrifuge. This allows us to separate out the PRP from the remaining blood components. It can then either be injected (following numbing cream application) into the skin or scalp, or (for example following Morpheus8) applied directly to the surface of the skin.

  • PRP has been shown to promote new collagen formation, so improving skin hydration and elasticity, as well as reducing dark circles and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Furthermore, it has been shown to promote new and thicker hair growth in those suffering alopecia (hair loss).

  • Because PRP is derived from your own blood, there is no risk of rejection or allergic reaction. As with all injectables, there is always risk of infection or bruising so as always, it is important your injector is appropriately qualified.
