Microneedling remains one of the most effective and trusted methods for stimulating collagen and rejuvenating the skin. This results-driven treatment continues to deliver impressive improvements in texture, firmness, and radiance β€” making it a cornerstone of advanced skin health.

At The Lodsworth Clinic, we use the cutting-edge pHformula Proton Pen, designed to work in perfect synergy with pHformula’s skin resurfacing solutions to enhance cellular renewal and the body’s natural healing process. The Proton Pen uses ultra-fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering collagen and elastin production for long-term rejuvenation.

How it Works

Safe and highly adaptable, microneedling can be performed on all skin types and concerns β€” including hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, ageing, improving wrinkles and fine lines, and minimising pore size. Your practitioner will carefully tailor the treatment depth (ranging from 0.25–1.5mm) to precisely target the epidermis or dermis, ensuring optimal results and minimal downtime. The outcome is smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin that continues to improve as it regenerates.

FAQs

  • Microneedling works in two ways: the micro-channels created in the skin increase the absorption of topically applied active ingredients, and also activate the wound healing process.

It is this defence mechanism we strive to harness, as it results in the stimulation of growth factors, which in turn generate natural collagen induction and elastin production. The micro channels that are created close after 10-15 minutes so that the epidermal barrier integrity remains intact.

  • Depending on your skin’s requirements, we will choose from:

    • Vitamin B3 solution (Niacinamide cocktail with antioxidants and peptides to strengthen the skins defence barrier, improve hydration & elasticity, and brighten a dull complexion)

    • Vitamin C solution (Strengthens the structural support and elasticity of the skin to rejuvenate, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles)

    • Hyaluronic Acid solution (nourishing and hydrating - ideal for dry, ageing or tired skin, and loss of volume)

    • Botulinum toxin (works only on the skin’s surface to reduce facial flushing, regulate oil and sebum production and to improve skin texture)

  • Microneedling is a treatment suited to most people, but in particular those who want to improve the texture and tone of their skin. For example: skin laxity, thinning skin, fine lines and wrinkles, UV damage, hyperpigmentation, acne, enlarged pores, scars and stretch marks.

  • Microneedling is contraindicated if you have active acne or cold sores, inflamed skin (including sunburn) or have used Isotretinoin (oral capsules) within the past 6 months.

Similarly, we cannot treat you if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or suffer from scleroderma, some autoimmune disorders, or skin cancer. In which case, there may be alternative treatments you are better suited to - just ask!

  • Microneedling can feel scratchy or hot on more sensitive areas of the face, depending on the depth of needles used. We always apply local anaesthetic cream to make you as comfortable as possible throughout the treatment.

  • It is common to be quite red after your treatment and this can last for 2-3 days, sometimes with a prickly warm sensation. If you are prone to cold sores, microneedling can trigger eruption - it is important you let us know at your consultation if you suffer.
